Synopsis

The Monk and the Fly is an animated fable about a hapless monk who is looking forward to meditating peacefully under a tree on a warm summer’s day. Needless to say, everything does not go to plan. According to the director, he wrote this story when he lived in Barceloneta, a happy coincidence that we can count on this film in our festival.

Film Director

Matthew Darragh is a New Zealand born animator, writer and director with 20 years industry experience in Europe and New Zealand. He has worked on preschool TV shows for Disney, Warner Bros and Silvergate. Recent credits include directing TV show Kiddets, a coproduction between New Zealand/China and the Emmy nominated Henry Hugglemonster for Brown Bag Films in Ireland.

Matthew has also directed and animated four award winning short films including the IFTA nominated Pilgrim and The Monk and the Fly. His latest film An Ode to Love was recently awarded Best Animation at the Rome International Film Festival, and Best Animated Film at the prestigious Foyle Film Festival in Northern Ireland.

After the screening, a storytelling session with an interactive workshop led by the actress Marta Millà, author of the storybook Jatakas, therapist and Zen practitioner.
